fePoisson

fePoisson is a command line finite element 2D/3D nonlinear solver for problems that can be described by the Poisson equation. It can be useful to electromagnetism, heat transfer and other areas.

It was initially developed in 2010 for private use and since January 2014 it is shared with the community.

It was designed to work with the gmsh open source mesh generator (primarily Delaunay) with built-in pre- and post-processing facilities (see http://geuz.org/gmsh/)

As so, it accepts first or second order node/line/triangle/tetrahedral mesh data with msh format. Output is a msh format file with field data to be viewed with gmsh features such as flexible graphics and rich plug-in pos-processing.

Problem characteristics such as materials, boundaries, symmetry and solving options are described by a simple text file (see screenshot).

  • Built-in functions with configurable parameters to represent material characteristics, such as nonlinear permeability. More functions can be added by simple programming.
